Rethink Robotics unveils user-friendly Baxter industrial robot

It has been a long time since we discussed about industrial robots. Now, we are back with a brilliant industrial robot called Baxter developed by Boston-based firm Rethink Robotics. This industrial robot is designed to serve its best in manufacturing jobs without any requirement of robotics professionals or software. All you want to do is to teach a new task and watch its performance.

The two-armed Baxter is very handy in performing several industrial tasks like:

  • Line Loading and Unloading
  • Material Handling
  • Packing and Unpacking
  • Test and Sort
  • Machine Tending
  • Light Assembly
  • Finishing Operations

This intelligent industrial robot is very easy to teach just like a person. Instead of writing complicated programs, the operator should physically guide its arms to required motions for training a new task. It is simple and can be done within half an hour. You can also enhance its capabilities by updating the regular software or generate your new tasks using SDK (Software Development Kit).

A beauty about this industrial robot is that it applies common sense while performing a task as we do. It can understand and work safely together with humans. For instance, if a person suddenly makes contact with the robot, it stops the movements. It also slows its process when someone enters its workspace.

Apart from all the above fantastic features, Baxter also looks more convincible with its price. It just cost US $22000 and available for a pre-order. It is planned to ship from the start of next month, and I am personally looking for its wonderful contribution in small manufacturing units.
