Industrial robot draws human image autonomously

If you generally think of industrial robots, you may suddenly get its operating capabilities like machine loading & unloading, welding, and other industrial works on your mind. But, an industrial robot developed by the artists of the robotlab group at the Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany does sketching of a humanís face autonomously (an image of this performance is shown in the above picture). These artists joined hands with the scientists of Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technologies, and Image Exploitation for performing robot works.

You will be certainly amazed by the industrial robotís sketching capability, and you will also wonder how it works. In the sketching process, the robot arm will play an important role by holding pencil and camera.

  • In the first step, the industrial robot will capture the image of a human with the help of its camera.
  • Next, the captured image will be analyzed with edge-processing software. It will help in recognizing the contrast areas of the human face.
  • Then, the team should be aware that the robot did not draw some complex things such as wrinkles. Apart from this, it should be capable of recognizing several important objects like ears, eyes, etc.
  • At last, the recognized contrast regions will be converted into coordinates, and the arm movements will be dictated.

An amazing fact in this sketching process is that the industrial robot draws the image of a human within ten minutes.

This industrial robot will be displayed at the CeBIT digital technology trade show from 6th to 10th March in Hanover, Germany. At CeBIT, the visitors will be allowed to take place on a stool, and the robot will provide the finished product of their pencil image sketch in about ten minutes.
